Women’s Aid offers support services to children within a refuge for families who are victims of domestic abuse and to children who are suffering abuse but are not refuge residents, both on a one-to-one basis and in groups, helping them to build their self-esteem, self-confidence and self-worth and allowing them to develop their own plans and goals for the future. Joining in with group work reduces loneliness and isolation for the children and helps them to realise that they are not alone in having bad experiences and feelings. The project offers structured in-depth work allowing them time to help unravel complex feelings, and giving them some time and space to examine abuse as a behavior choice and to discuss divorce, separation and loss and what it means to them. £105,526.00 from BBC Children in Need funds a Services Coordinator and a part-time Children’s Assistant.
