Asda helps to save babies' lives over the phone

Thanks to the support from the Asda Foundation the Tommy’s PregnancyLine became a freephone number in 2010 – helping more mums and dads-to-be access this service readily.

Tommy’s midwives are now also trained in bereavement support and counselling helping them to support parents in their darkest days following the loss of a child. Since the re-launch the length of calls has increased and calls and emails to the line have risen by 50%.

Helping to support women in distress

A call came in from Tanya (Sheffield) who was experiencing a miscarriage. She was terrified, upset, and on her own at home. The Tommy’s midwife calmed her and talked her through what she was experiencing and what to do next. The call lasted over two hours.

Helping to save lives

A woman caller from Cardiff who was very anxious called in – she had not felt her baby move for more than a day. The Tommy’s midwife immediately asked her to call an ambulance. Her baby had the umbilical cord tied around his neck. Tommy’s intervention helped saved his life.
