We believe in supporting the local causes our colleagues get behind, helping to make a difference to your local community. For us, sharing their passion is the ideal way to give something back to the communities that support us. That is why we set up the Asda Foundation, which through a range of projects supports good causes across the UK.

Healey Dell Project

Rochdale

The charity provide dramatic arts to the local community and have decided to take over the local visitors centre after the council were forced to close this service. They wish to provide health and safety training for the local youths to help them gain skills to go back into work.

They needed money to furnish and set up the cafe and the Asda Foundation donated £10,000. They are also hoping to open up their doors and offer the space to the local community at low cost.

Southport off Shore Rescue Trust

Southport

The charity rescue crew have been back in operation since 1989 and have saved over 200 casualties – with three of their crew members receiving bravery awards.

Southport off Shore Rescue Trust

Not only are these crew members inspirational in helping save people from the waters, they also give up their time further by being active in their local communities by talking to the local schools, brownies and scouts on how to be safe in the water.

As they are volunteers they do not have a lot of funds, but they have been patching up the much needed suits that they have had for a few years – however – the Asda Foundation have donated £9000 which will provide new suits, which should last for at least 15 years.

Sefton Sea Cadets

Bootle

The sea cadets have been in residence at their current location since 1975 and have over 80 children attending with local residents and parents volunteering their own time to keep the group running.

In the past few years they have been plagued by vandalism which has made their facilities a health hazard. Volunteers have been fundraising to make the place a safe environment for the children to take part in their activities.

The £10,000 donation from the Asda Foundation will help them purchase a second-hand mini bus and some much-needed roof repairs so they can continue to operate safely.

Wigan Space to Grow

Wigan

The donation of £14,000 from the Asda Foundation will be used to turn a derelict patch of ground into a sensory and wildlife garden which will be available all year round for the local community. It will be used to educate the school children and offer training opportunities for the local community.

The land has been previously used for fly tipping and anti-social behaviour so it will be great to see the area revamped and put to good use.

The Harpurhey Kids Zone

Harpurhey

The Foundation’s donation of £30,000 will support this much needed facility in the local community, who aim to taking kids off the streets and giving them the tools to gain self respect, self esteem and youth facilities during the evening. This will benefit more than 1,500 young people throughout the year.

Waterside Youth Club

Colne

The Waterside area of the town is the most underprivileged area in Colne with the highest percentage of single parents/low income families. When the Youth Club was up and running the youth crime rate dropped considerably. The funding of £11,050 from the Foundation will enable the Youth Club to be reinstated and continue running successfully.
