We believe in supporting the local causes our colleagues get behind, helping to make a difference to your local community. For us, sharing their passion is the ideal way to give something back to the communities that support us. That is why we set up the Asda Foundation, which through a range of projects supports good causes across the UK.

Local community swimming pool - £15,000

Poole

This swimming pool is based in the local school but is accessible to the wider community at a low cost. It is also used by all the local schools and has been around for over 30 years but desperately needs repairs to stay open. The money will be used to help repair the roof and other vital maintenance needed. The overall cost of the repairs is £50,000.

Wootton Bassett Bowls Club

Haydon

This is a local Bowling Club that was founded in 1928 and offers bowling at low cost – it is a very community led bowling club. However, lately they have been getting younger users joining the club.

The 18-25 age group buy their own balls but they feel they cannot ask the younger children aged 8-13 to buy. The Asda Foundations donated £2,035 and the club will now be in a better position to support all that wish to use the facilities.

The George Shearing Centre

Clapham Junction

The centre has been operating since 1995 and is a popular community centre for the young people in the area. The youth centre is mainly used by 13 to 25 year olds and is open after school and during the school holidays.

They have recently had the hall repainted but our donation of £9,200 will help them to buy new furnishings and other items needed to complete the sensory room – much needed by the children that use the facilities.

Angel Appeal

Patchway

The centre has been running for almost 50 years and is very much part of the local community. Now, due to demand, the centre needs to be expanded.

Members of the centre have raised a significant amount of money for the new building and the Asda Foundation’s donation of £4,828 will help towards funding the café and games equipment for the young people.

Beacon Infant and Nursery School – Nature Garden and Trail

Bodmin

The Asda Foundation’s donation of £2,500 has been used to update the playground with a Nature Garden and low level trail. This will enhance the children’s physical development skills at play times and create a gardening area for the classes to learn through real–life experience.

Lanivet Primary School outdoor activity zone

Bodmin

This is a small Victorian primary school. Their playground was a sea of tarmac which has now been transformed into an outdoor activity zone giving the children the opportunity to practice their agility and balancing skills.

There will be four further zones including, quiet, active, exploring and growing, all helping to develop their education.
