We believe in supporting the local causes our colleagues get behind, helping to make a difference to your local community. For us, sharing their passion is the ideal way to give something back to the communities that support us. That is why we set up the Asda Foundation, which through a range of projects supports good causes across the UK.

Goetre Community Library - £5,500

Merthyr Tydfill

This is a project which will benefit the whole community with literacy skills and also be able to get on hand support for extra skills. The local community will also be able to borrow books like they do in a library. The project will be run by the local charity Stephens and George Centenary Charitable Trust.

They will use a portal cabin based in the local school which is no longer needed by the school and will be open all week to benefit the wider community. The money will help with décor and to buy much needed equipment.

Clarence park Community Area - £9,164.93

Llandudno

This was a piece of land that the local community have been working towards turning into a play area for the local children. They have many other groups supporting them on this venture and have raised £3,000 towards the costs – the Foundation was only too happy to help with the remaining funds needed. We believe this is truly a community project.

Nefyn Community Centre

Pwlheli

This is a community centre which is used by the whole community, play schemes, after school and holiday clubs, projects to tackle anti social behavior and elderly support groups.

The redevelopment of the community centre will benefit a wide range of groups within the local community. There is a distinct lack of resources to support activities for children, parents and families in the local community.

Sensory Garden & Angling Facilities

Brynmawr

A license has been granted by the council to a local charitable group – ‘Friends of the Lakeside’ – to regenerate and enhance a lake and surrounding land adjacent to the Asda store.

The group is creating a sensory garden around the lake for the disabled members of the community. The project also includes the construction of walkways over the lake and new fishing areas for all members of the community to enjoy.

Along with the regeneration and enhancement of the site, the project is aimed at taking young people off the streets and giving them the opportunity to develop a hobby in a safe environment.

The project will substantially regenerate an area into a ‘community hub’ which families can enjoy for generations, and the Asda Foundation has donated £5,000 to make this happen.

Children’s Community Memorial Garden

Llandudno

Llandudno has lost many children under tragic circumstances – the Mayor put forward plans for a memorial in a location which was safe and secure to minimise vandalism.

There is much very deep and sad feeling that recent events have had on the local community with the loss of young lives. Having a memorial garden for quiet reflection – or simply somewhere to rest will have a real and positive effect on the whole community and will be a significant step forward in the healing process and above all will be much appreciated by everyone.
