We believe in supporting the local causes our colleagues get behind, helping to make a difference to your local community. For us, sharing their passion is the ideal way to give something back to the communities that support us. That is why we set up the Asda Foundation, which through a range of projects supports good causes across the UK.

Community Care Entertainment based at the Forrest Community Centre - £6,850

Bloxwich

This group has been in operation since 1983 and provides entertainment events for the local elderly residents. They also provide meals on wheels to make sure that the residents have one good meal a day. However recently they have found that it is better to transport the residents to the centre for their meal as it may be the only company they get for the day. So the money will be used for the running cost of their two mini buses.

Sparkbrook Elim Christian Centre

Small Heath

This centre is used by the wider community free of charge from elderly groups, mother and toddler and youth groups. The only cost would be for certain activities at the lowest cost available.

However over the past few years the heating system has not really been that great and now has to be replaced. The groups managed to get funds donated from Yardley Trust, Wakeham Trust and the local Police community fund.

However they where still short of funds to get the job completed. The foundation was happy to donate the £2,500 needed to complete the job. They will now have a full new heating system.

Refurbishment of the local Samaritans Offices

St. Matthews

The local Samaritans have been housed in 4 porta cabins for the past 40 years in the Walsall area and have around 19,000 calls per year to this branch. The fundraising that the volunteers do is to mainly cover the power, telephone and stationary cost to keep this service available to its many users.

All through this time they have managed to get by with the facilities that they have. However over time the cabins have become worn and some roof damage. However they have very low rent for the land that they are based on that they could not afford to move.

The Asda foundation has granted the Samaritans £14,580 to cover the cost of all repairs so they can continue to provide this much needed service.

Tipton Toddlers Playgroup Restoration

Tipton

The group has been running for 11 years and provides a service for over 85 families and this much needed funding will really support this local community.

Stafford Rangers Social Club Revamp

Stafford

The funding from the Foundation has been used to complete the project and create a focal meeting place for the youth in the area. By installing the disabled facilities this will make this accessible to so many children, youths in the surrounding area.

Benn Partnership Centre

Rugby

The Benn Partnership was set up in 1997 in a very deprived area of Rugby and has since supported on average 1500 people annually from all backgrounds, ages and genders. The centre offers help, support and advice on a wide range of subjects.

The Asda Foundation has provided £17,000 in funding, which will be used for vital repairs and essential equipment for what is the hub for this local community.
